The Bar1951 is committed in supporting LOCAL MUSIC, ARTS and LIVELIHOOD.
Finally after months (well years actually) I have finally decided to start blogging again for our 'new' baby. This is the continuing story of the former (named after a black bird that would not fly) bar/cafe that just would not die.
We have transffered to a new location, this time back to Malate Manila. Our new address is 1951 M. Adriatico St. Malate Manila (we are beside Union Bank, in front of BDO bank and before you reach Security Bank, how is that for a location??)
A Brief History Background
The Bar1951 occupies what used to be the old Cosa Nostra Italian Restaurant. It is an old two(2) story apartment house built in the 1950s. We converted the 2nd floor area, removed all the partitions of what used to be the staff room of the old restaurant. Much of the old materials were retained and used, except for the old plumbing fixtures, the electrical system and of course the kitchen
The ground floor is where we have the usual live music performance. This is one of my favorite spot. We don't have a stage (I hate putting up stages). Without any stage to separate the performers/musicians, the whole experience becomes more 'intimate'. This is after all your 'neighborhood' and an extension of your living room.
We removed the ceiling to exposed the wooden support beams. We recycled most of the materials from the original structure . The old flooring were kept (white machuca tiles).

up to the 2nd floor, this stairs will lead you to the 2nd floor, HOLD ON TO THE FISHES on your left....
At times this area could get crowded, hot and rowdy. This is how we liked it though. Why go to a bar that is so stiff and formal in the first place right? But different strokes for different blokes.
This is a view from the 'loft'. The second floor is the main gallery area It has a high ceiling of about 10 mtrs height. It can get too cozy for some people and yes it is also a good spot for people watching, not to mention that this is the smoking area.. BUT WE don't encourage smokin! This place is also for people who for some reason would rather spend the night talking and have decent conversation while the ground below is shaking.
We figured the whole place should be able to accommodate around 100 people sitting with a few meters of space enough for dancing.
